As a Professional Reiki Practitioner, we would never advise any person to reduce their prescribed medication or stop using it without the instruction of their Medical Doctor or Consultant.
Reiki is however, recognised as a Complementary Therapy i.e. it can be used in conjunction with medical advise and treatments to help alleviate the symptoms of the diagnosed illness.
Recently, we had a Client who was on medication for mild anxiety. His Doctor advised him that it really wasn’t advisable for him to continue down this route in the long term and suggested that the man seek out alternative ways to try and manage his anxiety.
He contacted us and arranged an appointment for an initial consultation and Reiki session. At the first visit, we took a detailed Medical History and chatted about his fears and what was happening for him.
The Man was very stressed out at work and was also finding it very hard to sleep at night. He felt that he did not have time and felt unable to take exercise or pursue any hobbies and interests that he had. In short, he had got into such a stalemate that he could not see the wood for the trees. He said that he did not want to be reliant on the medication and agreed with the Doctor that he needed to take some action to help reduce his anxiety and start living life again.
After even just one Reiki Session, the Client felt very relaxed. We set One goal for him to carry out for the coming week – go for a 30 minute walk everyday in a lovely scenic area near his home. (During our chat it transpired that he lived in the country and that there were a number of Walking Trails within a short distance of his home). Before he left, we arranged another appointment for the following week.
When he came back, we spent the first few minutes chatting about how the week had gone for him, if he had managed to get out walking and how his sleep and anxiety levels were. He was delighted with himself, he felt more relaxed, was sleeping a lot better and was taking measures to reduce his workload and get out walking during the day.
We updated our “Treatment Plan” and arranged further appointments. The Client remained in contact with his Doctor throughout.
We were delighted to help this man to improve his life and help reduce the anxiety which was negatively impacting on his quality of life.
