What is Reiki?
Reiki is an ancient, non-intrusive complementary therapy. Reiki is a heaing technique that enhances the body’s own innate ability to heal itself on all levels.
It helps restore balance and harmony to the mind, body and spirit. The energy involved in Reiki healing is the universal energy that surrounds all life. Reiki is used throughout the world by people of all creeds and belief systems. Reiki can benefit everyone.
Origins of Reiki
Reiki originated in Japan. As in many disciplines from the East, it is noted that when the Ki (Life Force Energy) is free-flowing, people are generally healthier and happier. Reiki was brought into the West in the 1950’s and since the 1980’s it has flourished in the Western World. Reiki is now widely used in hospitals, nursing homes, hospices, schools and by many individuals for personal healthcare and well-being.

Receiving a Reiki Treatment
There are two ways of receiving a Reiki Treament from us:
- In person at our Centre; and
- via Distant Reiki Treatment. Click here for more information on this option.
Initial Consultation
At the start of your first visit to us or Distant Reiki Treatment, we will complete a Consultation Form with you to discuss your Medical History and to determine what your needs are and what specific areas of the mind or body you would like to work on.
All information provided is treated as Confidential. Record Forms are stored securely.
The Treatment itself
You will be lying down in a comfortable position with a Blanket placed over you for extra warmth.
Alternatively, you may sit upright on a comfortable chair, the choice is yours.
You will remain fully clothed throughout the treatment although it is usual for shoes to be removed for extra comfort. Some jewellery may be removed as it can interfere with the energy flow.
Some people close their eyes and even drift off to sleep because they are so relaxed and at ease.
Others may become aware of heat or a tingling sensation as the Practitioner moves their hands along the main energy points (also known as Chakras) along the body.
Reiki energy will flow to what ever part of the body needs it.
The treatment will last either 30 minutes or 60 minutes – depending on what duration has been booked.
After the reiki treatment, we will offer you a drink of water and allow you time to become grounded again. We will also discuss how you felt during the treatment and if we felt any particular sensations during the treatment we will also tell you about them.
Schedule of Reiki Treatments
If a Client is experiencing a chronic condition, it may be necessary to schedule 3 or 4 weekly sessions in order to build up the reiki energy in the system. We can discuss this at the Consultations before and after the treatment.
After a Reiki Treatment
It is very difficult to predict how you will feel after a Reiki Session as so many people react in so many different ways.
However, some Clients may experience the following:
- Lethargy
- Relaxation
- drastic reduction in stress
- extreme sense of relaxation
- overall feeling of being more balanced, calm and centered
- Some people may experience what we call a “Healing Crisis”. This is perfectly normal and is nothing to worry about. It is the body’s way of naturally removing toxins and negative energy that have been released during the Reiki Treatment. Symptoms can include: crying, slight headache, increased urination (going to the toilet).
After Care
We advise that you continue to drink lots of water for the next 24 hours after a Reiki Treatment. This is to enable the toxins mentioned above to be flushed out of the body.
If at all possible, relax and take things easy. Do not undertake heavy exercise for 24 hours after the treatment.
Some Clients may feel a little light headed after a reiki treament.
Grounding can be achieved by standing firmly and walking on the spot for 2 to 3 minutes.
DO NOT DRIVE UNLESS THE LIGHT HEADEDNESS HAS FULLY DISAPPEARED.
Reiki is not a substitute for medical treatment. If you have a physical, emotional or mental problem, it is advisable to see a qualified doctor.
A Professional Reiki Practitioner will not diagnose or recommend any form of treatment. Reiki is completely safe and will complement any medication or medical treatment.
